If you are thinking of buying an Ecohome log cabin, there are a number of things you should consider first.
Where are you planning to build your new log cabin? Is your existing site large enough for the cabin you have in mind. Make sure to leave adequate space between your cabin and any fences/walls/hedges etc so that you have room to treat the log cabin walls every few years.
Are there water and mains sources nearby? Often cabins are built in back gardens and therefore existing connections can easily be tapped into. If you are building your log cabin to rent out you may wish to have a separate electrical meter installed for billing purposes.
Also it is very important that your cabin is at the right height to connect to the existing sewerage connection.
The timber used for the construction of the log cabin must be of good quality and built to last a lifetime. At Ecohome, our goal is to continually deliver on our high standards of cabin quality. Our timber cabins are built to the highest European standards.
We have over 30 years of experience and our premium quality cabins are built to last! Our Ecohome log cabins are manufactured and built from the finest quality Scandinavian spruce with wall sizes of 28mm, 45mm and 70mm. Wall sizes of 88mm and 132mm made from Glulam laminated timber are also available on bespoke design log cabins.
We produce our own doors and windows and only use laminated pine and spruce in our production. Our doors and windows are of excellent quality. We insist on using Living type premium quality doors and windows in Ireland with ISO glass.
Orientation of your log cabin is very important. Where possible you should try to have large south-facing windows to maximise solar gain. There is a lot of free heat available from the sun. During the day, the sun pours in through these windows and creates heat throughout the building. Don’t forget to consider possible shadows from other buildings like your main house/garage.

Log cabins can be up to 50% cheaper to build than block builds. Log cabins are much cheaper to build than conventional block built homes for a number of reasons. The cost of labour is way less due to the speed at which our cabins are built. The cost of materials is much lower than for concrete homes. Brick is a much more expensive material compared to wood. The amount of energy that goes into producing concrete leads to an increase in its cost to the consumer.
Log cabins are built quickly, with less mess. Our log cabins are produced in a high-tech factory with all pieces cut to size. There is no need for on-site adjustments on delivery. All the pieces of wood just slot into place. A log cabin can be built in a number of days reducing labour costs. In a brick built home each block has to be handled multiple times, concrete to be applied to each block and each blocked to be placed perfectly etc.
Log cabins are considered to be far more efficient in terms of their utilisation of energy as compared to concrete homes. Wooden logs used for the construction of log cabins themselves act as good insulators and prevent the heat from escaping.
This helps in naturally maintaining the internal temperatures of the house irrespective of the external climatic conditions. A well-designed residential cabin helps reduce energy cost by 30 percent and also reduces the volume of pollutants released in the atmosphere by the artificial temperature.
At Ecohome we have sourced the highest quality cabins available in Europe and we offer them to you, delivered, built and well insulated. Please feel free to get in touch with us today to start your journey towards owning your own log cabin.
